Crime film is a genre that revolves around the action of a criminal mastermind. A Crime film will often revolve around the criminal himself, chronicling his rise and fall. Some Crime films will have a storyline that follows the criminal's victim, yet others follow the person in pursuit of the criminal. This genre tends to be fast paced with an air of mystery – this mystery can come from the plot or from the characters themselves.

Examples of crime films are:

Batman: When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, the caped crusader must come to terms with one of the greatest psychological tests of his ability to fight injustice.

Reservoir Dogs: After a simple jewellery heist goes terribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.

Snatch: Unscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian gangster, incompetent amateur robbers, and supposedly Jewish jewellers fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond.

Legend: The film tells the story of the identical twin gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Kray, two of the most notorious criminals in British history, and their organised crime empire in the East End of London during the 1960s.

We have auditioned 10 girls for the role of goldilocks from year 8 & 9. We were pleased with the overall level of acting and of which three stood out. Here are the ratings that I made during the casting:

For our film we are going to need four characters. Last year we were able to use myself and a close friend as this helped with arranging times to film, however, this year we are going to need four people who are going to fit the roles perfectly. This means that organisation is a big priority to be able to get the actors together fro filming.

The Characters are:

Goldilocks: This role will be played by a Year 9 or 8 girl from our school. We have had recommendations from drama teachers and will be holding auditions soon.

Red Riding Hood: This role will also be played by a girl in year 8 or 9 and will preferably be one of the girls that will be at the auditions. This character won't have any lines.

DCI Pearce: This will be played by out Media teacher as he is part of a local acting group and this will help as we can more easily arrange timings and so there will be an adult present for the filming with the younger girls.

DC Harpley: This character will be played by one of our friends. Harpley doesn't have any lines so the level of acting is not an issue and having someone we know will help with the directing.

Three bears: The last characters are the bears. These will be portrayed by bear skins and so the characters won't have any line but are more mentioned.

In the sixties this style of dress was exceedingly popular. Women would wear dresses, below knee length, with short to no sleeves. The dresses usually have a waistband around the middle to accent the woman's shape but the fabrics were thick and stayed in place giving a modest look to them. Patterns were used either as a printed pattern or the embroidery or texture. The colours are usually pinks or blue. This fits in with the original goldilocks costume we have in mind.

 

Other aspects to note are that girls fashion was a copy of adult fashion so there isn't much variation. The accessories they wore were very minimal usually just earrings in each ear. Girls usually had plain white socks under their shoes  Gloves were very common for both women and girls. Our film is set in the sixties so Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood will need to have costumes that fit into the similar style. Luckily Goldilocks' costume looks very similar to the above pictures. We will just need to add gloves and the appropriate shoes to make the costume complete. 

This is the warehouse that we will be filming at. This will be for the scene at the bottom of page 7. We chose the warehouse location as a place for Goldilocks to store the bear skins as warehouses are good places to hide items. 

As this warehouse will be used for office furniture we are going to use tight frame shots and have no establishing shots. This is because the only props we want to be the bearskins and chairs for the girls. For the audience to be able to see the location because of the scaffolding and the cement walls.

This is the location that we will be filming  the first scene of our short film. It is called The Island and is located in Bristol. Here is the website.

We chose this locations because it is able to give us not only a real police setting but because it has a very worn down aesthetic. The walls themselves have colour so after recording I will have to tone down the colour as the vibrate tones don't fit into the theme and genre of our film. 

The two characters that we are using that are based of fairytales are Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood. Both of these characters have big similarities and they are often seen together in drawings such as above.

Both the characters are portrayed as girls but both of the stories have been changed over time. Also both the stories take place in the woods with the girls more or less on their own. Lastly both stories include a wild animal that is seen as dangerous. Because of these similarities we want to have Red play a cameo in our short film.

This effect will help give the world that our film is set in slightly more depth by showing that there is more than one fairytale story that has been twisted.
